Doraliene Blackwell, 92, longtime resident of Washington State, died in her daughter's home under care of hospice, on Friday morning, March 8, 2024, in Warren, MN.
Doraliene Marie was born on May 23, 1931, in Edmonds, WA, to Venetta Mitchell and William Abbott. She was graduated from Seattle's Roosevelt High School with the class of 1950. Meeting her future husband in a roller rink, Doraliene followed New Yorker, Robert E. Blackwell, across the country where he completed his Army training during the Korean Conflict. The two were married in New York City on March 14, 1954. Following the war, the couple returned to Seattle to be near to her family.
An independent woman whose main goal in life was to be a good “Mama,” Doraliene raised four children and never work outside the home. After Robert died on December 12, 2002, she remained on her own and enjoyed visiting with family, watching the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, and doing puzzles. Doraliene moved in with her daughter, Venetta, in the last four years of her life, enjoying her mother-in-law suite, the company of children (even if sometimes grumpy), and the generations of family around her.
Doraliene is survived by three her children, Roy Blackwell and Venetta (Sven) Carlson both of Warren, and Curtis Blackwell of Seattle; seven grandchildren, Zada, Steven, Willow, Heaven, Ryan, Iven, and Kelley; six great-grandchildren (and one soon-to-be-born); and siblings, Florence Eckland, and Bill Mitchell all of Washington.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, Robert Earl Blackwell, Doraliene was preceded in death by her son, Robert Dennis Blackwell; and sister, Mary Abbott.
PRAYER SERVICE & REMEMBRANCES: Thursday evening, March 14, 2024, at 7:00 PM, in DuBore Funeral Home Chapel, Warren.
