Alice Evangeline Sherlock

Alice Sherlock, 95, of Oslo, MN, entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, August 17, 2017, surrounded by her loving husband and three generations of her family, in Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND.

Alice Evangeline Ljunggren entered this life on November 4, 1921, to Erick Andres and Sigre Lena (Sunderland) Ljunggren, in Milton, ND. She was raised with her nine siblings on a farm outside Adams, ND, where she attended country school. As a young woman, she moved to Oslo, where she worked with her sister, Ellen, as a cook for a threshing crew.

While at a local farmhouse dance, Alice and her sister met James Sherlock. Ellen would marry James' brother, Raphael, and Alice would be united in marriage to James, in the old St. Joseph's Church in Oslo, on December 29, 1942. The couple was blessed with five children, whom they would raise on the farm. Alice was a wonderful farm wife, growing flowers and gardening, canning vegetables, cooking, baking, all while working side-by-side with her husband. She was especially skilled at making donuts and canning pickles.

She was active in her church, serving in the Altar Society; and was a member of the Walshville Homemakers Club for many years. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will be remembered for the quiet but supportive way she cared for her family.

Alice is survived by her husband of nearly 75 years, James; children, Carl (Ilene) Sherlock of East Grand Forks, MN, Lorraine Sherlock of Manvel, ND, Janice Smidt of Grand Forks, and Scott (Denise) Sherlock of Oslo; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary, who passed away on November 11, 2009; her parents; and she was the last surviving sibling in her family.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, August 21, 2017, at 11:00 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oslo, MN.

Visitation: Sunday, August 20, from 5:00 PM; with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM, in St. Joseph's; and one hour prior to Mass.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Oslo, MN.
