Dale Swanson

Dale Swanson, 91, of Warren, MN, formerly of Argyle, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, September 19, 2017 at his home.

Mel Sheridan Dale Swanson was born on November 27, 1925 in Argyle, the son of Anton and Selma (Efterfield) Swanson. He was raised in Argyle where he graduated from Argyle High School. Dale was appointed to the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY in 1944. After he graduated from the academy, Dale went to officer's training at San Mateo, CA and was assigned to the Cape Blanco, delivering aviation fuel, munitions and supplies throughout the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. After he was discharged in August of 1945, he returned to Argyle where he painted with his father and brother. On July 29, 1947, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Widner in Warren. They made their home in Argyle where he worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years and was the Postmaster for many years. They moved to Warren in the fall of 2014.

He was a member of Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church, Argyle American Legion Post #353, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and American Merchant Marine Veterans.

Dale was an avid musician who played in several bands including Al Maynard Band, Wurst Band and the Lee Gordon Band. He enjoyed camping, traveling, wintering in Arizona, listening to music and visiting with family and friends.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Anna Mae; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Deborah Swanson of Grand Forks, ND; two grandchildren, Geoffrey Swanson of Minneapolis, MN and Stephanie Swanson of Washington, D.C.; sister, Lois Dufault of Argyle, MN; sisters-in-law, Isabelle “Koon” Swanson of South St. Paul, MN and Edna Swanson of Crossville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lynn C. Swanson who was killed in action on May 13, 1969 in Vietnam; infant son in April of 1952; brothers, Alvin, Allard and Donald; sister-in-law, Grace Swanson; and brother-in-law, Arnold Dufault.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church in Argyle, MN.

Visitation: One hour before services.

Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Argyle, MN
