Darryl W. Jarshaw

Darryl Jarshaw, 62, of Newfolden, MN, passed away on Sunday afternoon, February 26, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Darryl Wayne Jarshaw was born on January 29, 1955, in Thief River Falls, MN, to James and Genevieve (Olson) Jarshaw. He grew up working on the family Grade A Dairy Farm in New Solum Township. He was baptized and confirmed in nearby Rindal Lutheran Church. He attended Holt Grade School and Newfolden High, the class of 1973.

On June 10, 1978, Darryl was united in marriage to Laural Jasmer, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. Shortly after their wedding, the young couple purchased a small farm east of Viking. With a labor of love, they expanded their farm and raised three sons.

One of Darryl's first jobs was managing the Thief River Falls Alfalfa Plant. For many years, he held down two jobs, working for the Soo Line Railroad and the Farmers Co-op Grain and Seed Elevators in TRF. His job later moved him to Middle River, where ran the elevator in Middle River for almost 30 years. He made many close friends over storytime and countless cups of coffee. In addition to his family farm, Darryl also custom harvested for several of his Middle River clients.

He had a love of farm life and his land. He took pride in a hard day's work, and enjoyed spending his evenings cutting firewood or trapping gophers. He was loyal to Ford vehicles, John Deere tractors, and Arctic Cat snowmobiles, tinkering with many over the years. Darryl and Laural were lucky to share a love of cars and participated in car shows to display Darryl's beloved 1966 Ford Fairlane GTA. He was a longtime member of the Northern (Tractor) Pullers Association and organized the annual Middle River and Newfolden pulls. He had many hobbies, and a contagious knee-slapping laugh, but the greatest joy in his life was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laural; sons, Darrick (Kasia) and their children, Earl, Elizabeth, and Lou Ally; Danni (Cari) and their children, Tuff and Roczen; and Dustin (Nicole) Jarshaw all of Newfolden; his mother, Genevieve Jarshaw; and siblings, Dede (Van) Swanson of Thief River Falls, Jim Jarshaw of Stephen, and Mike Jarshaw of Newfolden; many nieces and nephews; and his dog and faithful companion, Woody.

Darryl was preceded in death by his father, James; and stepson, Brett.

Darryl’s family would like to take an opportunity to thank the entire community for their amazing support at his benefit in January and every day since. The outpouring of love and generosity has been overwhelming and know that they truly cherish appreciate each and every one of you.

Visitation: Friday, March 3, 2017, from 5-7 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, in New Hope Lutheran Church, Newfolden, MN.
