David B. Duckstad

December 22, 1929 ~ December 13, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

David Bruce Duckstad, of Warren, MN, went home to his Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2017.

David was born on December 22, 1929, in Minneapolis, MN, to Rev. B.L. & Lila (Thoe) Duckstad. He was Baptized into the Lutheran Faith by his Father, grew up and attended school in St. Paul, MN. In 1944, his father enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Chaplin and moved to Ft. Bragg, NC, and then to Gainesville, FL, before moving back to Litchfield, MN after WWII. In 1947, David moved to Fertile, MN where he would farm the family farm which his Grandfather homesteaded in the 1880’s.

In 1951, David entered the US Army and took his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. In early 1952, David was sent to South Korea during the Korean War and would spend the next 18 months near Pusan, South Korea with the 863rd Trans Port Co, APO 59. He was honorably discharged from active duty as a Corporal after the war, in the fall of 1953, and returned to Litchfield. He would then take  job with the US Government and he became a Survey Technician with the Soil Conservation Service (SCS).

On July 24, 1955, David married the love of his life, Beverly Haugen, in Fertile, MN. They lived in Litchfield, McIntosh, and finally made their home in Warren, MN, in 1959. There they would raise their four children, Robert, Kathy, James & Mary. David retired in 1985 from the SCS and would keep himself busy with many activities. Along with his family, David’s Faith in the Lord was very important to him and he was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren. He enjoyed visiting restaurants with his wife, Beverly, many times per week, and could strike up a conversation with any stranger. His positive, happy, joyful, and funny personality was well known around the community. David also loved to keep his cars clean and his lawn manicured!

David is survived by his wife, Beverly, of 62 years; children, Kathy (James) Gross of West Fargo, ND, James (Tammy) Duckstad of Warren, and Mary (Mark) Carlson of Hayfield, MN; five grandchildren, Ben (Kristen Hanson) Duckstad, Kaley (Terry) Wilkins, Dani (fiance, Jordon Eder) Duckstad, Zak Duckstad, and Jeremy Duckstad; daughter-in-law, Wendy Duckstad; great-grandchildren, Blake, Addison, and Lauren; and many sisters-and-brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
