Dennis Kollin, 80, Alvarado, MN, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, in the Good Samaritan Center, Warren, MN.

Dennis Wesley was born on January 20, 1935, in Oslo, MN, to Gullick and Clara (Johnson) Kollin. Dennis was a great athlete, lettering on the varsity basketball team from 6th grade through his senior year and also playing on the baseball team that went to State. He graduated from Alvarado High School and, shortly after, enlisted in the US Army in 1955 where he served in the 5th Armored Victory Division. His athletic excellence continued during his military service, winning several serviceman basketball awards and even being named MVP after playing in the European Theater basketball championship.

Upon his honorable discharge, Dennis was united in marriage to Elaine Quern on October 19, 1957, in Zion Lutheran Church, Oslo. The young couple made their home in Alvarado. Dennis, known as “Leaky,” bought Bud's Plumbing and Heating in Oslo, and operated it for nearly fifty years. He was known as a “Mr. Fix-It” and even volunteered in some plumbing repairs while he was living at the nursing home.

In addition to his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Elaine, Dennis is survived by children, Judy (Patrick) Rosinski, and Jay Kollin both of Grand Forks; five grandchildren, Lisa, Wesley, Michael, Samantha, and Jay; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Jerzee; siblings, Marlene Knutson, Bonnie (Floyd) Johnson both of Alvarado; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Johnson of Alexandria, MN, and Shirley Kollin of Alvarado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Stanley Johnson, Gaylor Kollin, and Gladden (Eileen) Kollin; brother-in-law, Doug Knutson; and niece, Debbie Kollin.

 

Visitation: Sunday, August 23, 2015, from 2-4 PM, at DuBore Funeral Home, Warren; and one hour prior to service in the church.

Funeral Service: Monday, August 24, at 10:30 AM, in Zion Lutheran Church, Oslo, MN.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Oslo, MN.

Military services provided by the East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157 and East Grand Forks VFW Post #3817.
