Doris J. Labine

July 6, 1922 ~ November 27, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Doris Labine, 95, of Argyle, MN, passed away on Monday night, November 27, 2017, in the Good Samaritan Center, Warren, MN.

Doris Jane was born on July 6, 1922, in Los Angeles, CA, to Allen and Carrie (Benesch) Dascomb. She was raised in L.A. and graduated from Fremont High School before attending business college. She worked for a short time before WWII broke out, and Doris got a job in a foundry supporting the war effort. After her boyfriend was killed, she enlisted in the US Navy, serving in the WAVES, being assigned to the naval fueling headquarters in San Francisco bay.

In a chance encounter, she met fellow Navy Serviceman, Oliver “Buster” Labine, and the two went on only a few dates before he was transferred to the east coast, and the two exchanged letters for several years before his discharge. Doris was honorably discharged in 1945 and Buster hitchhiked back to San Francisco. They were married soon after, on December 10, 1945. In the early years they moved between California and Minnesota several times; living in Crookston, MN, and working at the Marcoux Corner; and later living in Norco, CA; before moving back to Argyle for good in the fall of 1949. The growing family eventually made their home on the Labine farm, where Doris would raise their seven children and were active in the West Prairie 4-H Club.

Doris and Oliver moved into town in 1972, and she remained active in the Argyle Garden Club (which she helped found), St. Rose Catholic Church, and the Argyle Legion Auxiliary. Oliver passed away on December 22, 2000, and Doris continued to live independently, even keeping her driver's license until she was 90 years old.

She is survived by her children, Noel (Diana) LaBine of Andover, MN, Karen LaBine of Phoenix, AZ, Mark (Judy) LaBine of Arden Hills, MN, and Charles LaBine (Cyndi) of Argyle; good friend, Julie Labine; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Dascomb; and brother-in-law, Tom Fox.

In addition to her husband, Oliver, Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Carrie Dascomb; her brothers, Allen and Donald Dascomb; three daughters, Barbara, Jeanne, and Myra; grandchildren, Christie Durand and Dan Ruble; sons-in-law, Eugene Durand (Jeanne) and John Gyllenborg (Barbara); and daughter-in-law, Cyndi.
