Galen H. Oberg

Galen Oberg, 68, of Argyle, MN, passed away to be with his beloved wife, Judy, on Monday, July 27, 2015.

Galen Harold was born on July 17, 1947, to Harold and Violet (Leikness) Oberg, in Crookston, MN. He spent a few years in Angus, Warren, and White Bear Lake, MN, before moving to Argyle. He graduated from high school and shortly after, entered the US Army, serving in Korea during the Vietnam Era. He loved serving his country and really enjoyed his time overseas.

Upon his honorable discharge in 1968, Galen was married to Judith Horgen on November 24, and the young couple made their home in Stillwater, MN. There, Galen had what was probably the best job of his life, working at the Washington County Courthouse. He gave this up for his family, however, when Judy wanted to return home to be near her relatives. From then on, he worked at Strata Concrete, Argyle Building Center, and Nordic Fiberglass, where he retired in 2014.

Galen will be remembered for his devotion to his wife, his love for his children, and for his slicked-back “Elvis” hair, which he always kept in perfect order, even in his last days under hospice care.

He is survived by his children, Cristina (Tony Wollin) Klegstad of Karlstad, MN, Aaron Oberg of Argyle, Amanda (Scott) Beasecker of Stephen, MN, Leslie (Robert) Donarski of Alvarado, MN, Meghan Oberg or Argyle, and Nate (Beth) Oberg of Roscoe, MN; grandchildren, Brooke, Karissa, Jada, Alexis, Shelby, Stevy. Lilly, Kasen, Jay, Sierra, Isiah, Demetrius, Andrea, and Lennex; great-grandchild, Kobe; and sisters, Sherry (Connie) Wallace, and Bonnie (Eddie) Sullivan.

In addition to his wife, who passed away on November 13, 2014, Galen was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Treyton Wilson; granddaughter, Khloe Lou Donarski; infant sister, Darlene; brother-in-law, Kenneth Sevigny; niece, Vicky Aberling; great-nephew, Nicky Sevigny; and great-nieces, Kayla and Jazelyn Horgen.

Visitation: One hour prior to service at the church.
Memorial Service: Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 2:00 PM, in Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church, Argyle,MN.
