Gaylord Magner

July 5, 1932 ~ September 2, 2015 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Gaylord Magner, 83, of rural Newfolden, MN, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 2, 2015 under the care of hospice at his home with his children by his side.

Gaylord Alton Magner was born on July 5, 1932 in Hoople, ND, the son of Glenn and Agnes (Skadsem) Magner. He was raised in Hoople and Newfolden, MN area. Gaylord attended the Goodwill School. He worked in Iowa before joining the US Navy from 1952 - 1956. On February 19, 1955 in New Bedford, MA, he married Mary Theresa Machado. Gaylord served in the US Navy from 1965 - 1986. During his military time (24 years, 10 months, 28 days), he served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and visited more than 50 countries. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the Newfolden area.

He was a member of the VFW (life member), American Legion and the Naval Fleet Reserve Association.

Gaylord was a good Christian man who was a great father to his children.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mary Theresa Magner; four children, Wayne Magner of Vienna, MO, Kenny (Trish) Magner and Sharon (Donald) Collison all of Virginia Beach, VA and Eric Magner of Newfolden, MN; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Don (Bonnie) Magner of Thief River Falls, MN and Opal (Gary) Tanner of Holt, MN; sister-in-law, Joyce Jorgenson of Newfolden, MN; aunt, Lucille Skadsem of Thief River Falls, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Cecil, Ole and Gene and sister, Beatrice.

SERVICE: 6:00 PM on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden, MN.

MILITARY BURIAL AT SEA: will preformed by a naval vessel based out of Norfolk, VA.
