Gloria Mickelson

May 1, 1927 ~ February 2, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Gloria Mickelson, 89, passed away at the Karlstad Memorial Healthcare Center on Thursday afternoon, February 2, 2017, with her family by her side.

Gloriann Parent was born in Argyle, MN on May 1, 1927, to Omer and Arthemise (Bazinet) Parent. She was the fourth of 13 siblings, so the household was a busy one, with the older children often helping to care for their younger brothers and sisters.

Gloria was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Church and attended school at St. Rose Academy. She married Gordon “Bill” Mickelson on April 9, 1947, and they made their home in Stephen for 63 years. She was a loving and devoted mother to three sons and a daughter: Larry, Wayne, Allen and Sheryl. The family enjoyed camping and fishing, spending many, many weekends at Lake of the Woods.

She was an active member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, teaching catechism and serving on the Ladies Aid. Gloria had a fun-loving spirit, and she was always available for an adventure. She was on a bowling team for many years, she was often the winner in family pinochle games, she made frequent trips to the casino, she loved antiquing and she made several memorable trips to visit family in Texas, New Mexico, and California.

Gloria adored her grandchildren and devoted many hours of “special” time with each of them. She was a fantastic baker, and her buns and doughnuts were especially scrumptious. She was a thoughtful and sharing person known for bringing delicious meals to homebound friends and offering prayers for loved ones far and near.

Following Bill’s death in 2010, Gloria moved to the Tamarac Apartments in Stephen and later to the Karlstad Memorial Healthcare Center.

Survivors include her children and their families: Larry and Edie Mickelson, Dana (Steve) Snyder and Brian (Kelly) Mickelson; Wayne and Kathy Mickelson, Jason (Anna) Mickelson and Naomi (Kent) Holzer; Allen and Susan Mickelson, Kerri Mickelson, Natalie Mickelson and Heather (Andy) Schneider; Sheryl and Greg Lubarski, Chelsea Lubarski and Christopher (Jennifer) Lubarski.

Also surviving are 15 great grandchildren and another on the way. Two of her brothers survive: Dale (Ralphine) Parent and Donald Parent, in addition to hundreds of nieces, nephews and cousins.
