Loren Quern, 74, of Oslo, MN, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Loren Dale was born on August 9, 1942, to Kenneth Edmund and Ivadelle Juliette (Nelson) Quern, in Grand Forks. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Oslo High School. He entered the US Air Force in 1962 and was stationed in Kansas City, KS. On June 26, 1964, Loren was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Stuteville, in Independence, MO. The young couple made their home in Kansas City until 1966, when Loren was honorably discharged and they moved home to Oslo, Loren continuing to serve in the Air Force Reserve until 1968.
He was active in his community, serving as a commander of the Oslo American Legion, on the Zion Lutheran Church Council, and as a Luther League Advisor. He was employed for many years as a Civil Service contracting electrician. He also worked for Lunseth Plumbing and Heating, and for Kedney Moving Center.
Loren enjoyed computers and loved spending time with his grandchildren, making sure he attended as many of their activities as possible.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; mother, Ivadelle Quern; his daughters, Robin (Jim) Shambaugh of Minto, ND, and Marla (Todd) Berge of Hillsboro, ND; grandchildren, Tyler (Sara), Dustin, Megan, and Cameron Shambaugh, and Tatiana, Katja, and Truman Berge; great-grandchildren, Haley, Landen, and Avery; and brothers, Roger (Sharon) Quern and Marlen (Marggy) Quern.
Loren was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth.
Funeral Service: Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 10:00 AM, in Zion Lutheran Church, Oslo, MN.
Visitation: Friday, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, at the church.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Oslo.
