Welcome to the memorial page for

Myron W. Haugen

April 7, 1927 ~ July 14, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Myron W. Haugen, 89, of Warren, MN, passed away in his home, surrounded by his loving family and caregivers, on Thursday, July 14, 2016.

Myron was born on April 7, 1927, on the family farm near Fertile, MN, to Helmer and Bergjliot (Pederson) Haugen. The third of eight children, Myron grew up working on the farm, raising animals and learning the work ethic that would serve him the rest of his life. He graduated from high school at the age of seventeen and had to get permission from his parents to enlist in the Army. Upon entering, he served for a while in the US, before being sent to Germany.

On June 15, 1946, Myron's life changed forever, when he met Irmy Schubert-Schroeder, at a dance while off-duty. He spent the next three months falling in love, only to have to return to the US. He kept up a written correspondence with Irmy for two years, all the time saving, knowing from the beginning that he wanted them to make their lives together in the States. After being honorably discharged, and working for two years, selling nearly everything that was his on the farm, Myron saved up enough to bring Irmy home. On September 23, 1948, the young couple was married and they made their home in Grand Forks, ND.

They lived in Litchfield, MN, and Dassel, MN, and Devils Lake, ND, raising their growing family. In 1970, Myron and Irmy made a leap of faith and sold the family's home, investing everything in their new business in Devil's Lake, Nordic Fiberglass Incorporated. In the early years, Myron and Irmy had two employees, shared a desk and worked long hours. The business grew under his leadership and in April of 1985, the Nordic plant was opened in Warren, MN. The company continues to be operated in both locations.

Just as Myron was ready to retire, tragedy struck the family when their son, Greg, died on April 21, 1989. After that, Myron redoubled his efforts at the office and never officially retired. His last day at the office was last week. For everything that he accomplished, and his generosity to this community, Myron never took credit, always telling others that it was all due to his “Friend up there.” His faith ran deep, influencing his actions and inspiring others to live the same way. He taught Sunday School and was church treasurer in both Litchfield and Dassel, was a longtime member of Our Savior's in Warren, and was named the Builder of the Year for the City of Warren.

Myron will be remembered for his great love for his wife, Irmy, and for making their marriage an example of building the other up, for his compassion, and for being a gentleman in every circumstance.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Irmy; his daughters, Carol Stabenow, of Stillwater, MN, Patricia (Paul) Gust of Eagan, MN, Nancy Haugen of Stillwater, MN and Linda (Tim) Conely and Susan (David) Haugen-Sumner of Warren, MN; ten grandchildren, Matt, Nate, Alex, Zach, Chris, Jesse (Jena), Kristen, Jen, Casey (Samantha), and Miranda; and five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brody, Jayda, Amora, and Jacob; siblings, Betty (Erman) Ueland, Beverly (David) Duckstad, Yvonne (Lyle) Nelson, Howard (Elizabeth) Haugen, and Lois (Dale) Bauer; and sister-in-law, Irene Haugen.
