Orpha Tverstol

Orpha Tverstol, 100, of Warren, MN, passed away on Thursday morning, June 8, 2017, in the Good Samaritan Center, Warren.

Orpha Ensrud was born on April 3, 1917, in rural Pekin, ND, to John and Ida (Brekken) Ensrud. She was raised on the family farm and attended Pekin High School. On November 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to Sanford Tverstol, with whom she had two sons, David and Douglas.

The couple made their home west of Argyle, where Sanford farmed and Orpha was a “farmwife,” keeping house but also working in the fields as needed. She kept a huge garden which fed family and farm workers for many years. She was a great hostess and loved to have company. In her early years, Orpha enjoyed dancing and especially enjoyed listening to Sanford play the saxophone. The two moved into Warren in the early 70's, where Orpha was a teacher's assistant for many years, working with children with special needs.

She was put under care of hospice last year, at age 99, but came off it after improving, confident she would make it to 100. She achieved her goal.

Orpha is survived by her son, Doug (Cathy) of Mt. Dora, FL; nieces and nephews, Jay, Jan, and Roger Ensrud, Jeff (Carol) Burkland, and Beth (Blair) Halvorson; a great-niece, Shannon (Derick) Converse of Newfolden, MN, who was like a granddaughter; and great-nieces and nephews, Darren (Naomi) Burkland, Dylan Burkland, Braden (Carrie) Halvorson, Jared Halvorson, Alec Halvorson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford; infant son, David; and siblings, Juel, Manser, Conrad, and Marie Ensrud, and Beulah Burkland; brother-in-law, Sidney Burkland; and great-nephews, Chad Burkland and Kyle Halvorson.

Funeral Service: Monday, June 12, 2017, at 10:30 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Warren, MN; with visitation one hour prior to services.
Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.
