Robert Safranski Sr.

Robert Safranski, Sr., of Stephen, MN, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016, in the Good Samaritan Center, Warren, MN, at the age of 91.

Robert John Safranski was born on August 13, 1925, in Tamarac Township, MN, the son of John and Rose (Florek) Safranski. He attended country school until the 8th grade, after which he worked on the family farm. On November 8, 1944, Robert was united in marriage to Delphine Sczepanski. They made their home in Tamarac Township where they farmed until 1994 when they moved into Stephen.

He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Stephen's Catholic Church.

Robert loved his wife and family deeply and he had a passion of farming, snowmobile racing, and hunting. He was a self-taught mechanic and could take apart and fix nearly anything. Some of his greatest memories were made while being a mechanic for his sons in the I-500 Race. In the course of his life, Robert cut hay with horses and was still actively working at 88, driving a tractor with auto-steer. Robert was one of those people that you never forgot once you met him.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife of almost 72 years, Delphine; daughters, JoAnne Decker of Litchfield, MN, Sue (John) Amundgaard of Warren, MN, Mary Safranski of Manvel, ND, and Carol Safranski of Cokato, MN; and sons, Robert Jr. (Jean) Safranski of Strandquist, MN, James (Donna) Safranski of Stephen, MN, Bill (Elaine) Safranski of Stephen, MN, and Richard (Shelly) Safranski of East Grand Forks, MN; siblings, Ted (Ethel) Safranski, Stephen (Betty) Safranski and Frank (Karen) Safranski all of Argyle, MN and Margaret (Ervin) Jensrud of Litchfield, MN and sister-in-law, Judy Safranski of Argyle, MN.

He is also survived by 26 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose; grandson, Mark Wayne Safranski; brother, John; and sister, Rose.

Visitation: Friday, October 28, 2016, after 5:30 PM with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service in St. Stephen Catholic Church; and one hour prior to Mass.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2016, in St. Stephen Catholic Church, Stephen, MN.

Interment: St. Stephen Cemetery, Stephen, MN.
