Valerian Kuznia Sr

June 3, 2014

Valerian Kuznia Sr., 96, of Argyle, MN, passed away at his home, Tuesday, June 03, 2014.

Valerian Sylvester Kuznia was born December 31, 1917, to Vincent and Wanda (Gratzek) Kuznia on their farm in rural Stephen, MN. He was raised on the family farm near Florian in Wright Township, MN and he attended Florian Country School.

He was married to Loretta Irene Price on June 20, 1944 at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940-1945 being stationed in the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands. Upon his release from the U.S. Army in 1945, they purchased their farm in Wright Township. He took great pride in his farming, as well as raising dairy cattle and hogs. Loretta passed away in 1982. Valerian lived on his farm until his death.

He was a life-long member of Assumption Church with a deep love for his Catholic faith and served on the Parish Council and as Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and the Argyle American Legion.

Valerian loved baseball and as a youth, he was a catcher for the Florian Falcons and a Minnesota Twins fan. He enjoyed playing cards, music, dancing, and playing his harmonica. Valerian loved cooking and he cooked for himself until his death.

He spoke fluent Polish all his life, and was happy to find others he could speak Polish with. He took great pride in his Polish Heritage and enjoyed Polish music and the Polish Dancers at the Marshall County Fair.

He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and enjoyed visiting and spending time with his family, always with a cup of coffee and a cookie. Celebrations were important and always included food in abundance.
