Viola Larson, 96, of Oslo, MN, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2017, in Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND.
Viola Hannah Hedman was born on February 26, 1921, in Salem, SD, the daughter of Verner and Hannah (Anderson) Hedman. She moved with her family in 1928 to Clearbrook, MN where she graduated from Clearbrook High School. Viola attended Bemidji State Teachers College and graduated from University of North Dakota. On July 31, 1941, she was united in marriage to A. Arnold Larson in Bemidji, MN. They made their home in Bigwoods Township – rural Oslo. Viola taught school in country schools for 8 years, and in Alvarado, MN for 25 years. Arnold died on November 16, 2006. After Arnold's death, she lived in Warren, MN for several years until moving to East Grand Forks.
She was an active member of Bigwoods Lutheran Church, WELCA, and Minnesota Education Association. Viola volunteered for 10 years in a reading program in McAllen, TX.
Viola enjoyed fishing, golfing, painting, playing cards and music, and wintering in Texas; but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Left to mourn her passing are two children, Delwood (Shirley) Larson of Oslo, MN, and Donna Larson of Sheep Mountain, AK; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, with one on-the-way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Verner and Hannah; husband, Arnold; and siblings, Roy Hedman, Maurine Sweckard, and Mildred Donahue.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oslo, MN.
Visitation: One hour before services at the church.
Interment: Bigwoods Lutheran Cemetery, rural Oslo, MN.
