DeLone Riopelle

DeLone Riopelle, 88, a lifelong resident of Warren, MN, passed away on Thursday night, September 21, 2017, in the Good Samaritan Center, under care of hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

DeLone Adele Sorenson was born on November 29, 1928 in Warren, the daughter of Jens and Bessie (Yuergens) Sorenson. She was raised in Warren and graduated from Warren High School in 1946. On September 27, 1947 she was married to Leonard “Kinsey” Riopelle and they made their home in Warren. They would be observing their 70th anniversary this year. From this union, they had six children; Jerry (Joddie Gilbertson) of Hillsboro, ND, Suzanne (Richard) Larson of Virginia Beach, VA, Glen “Buck” (Gloria) of Fargo, ND, Cindy Filipi of Bemidji, MN, Mick (Jan) of Warren, MN, and Todd (Trisha) of Fountain Hills, AZ. DeLone was a loving housewife and her children and home were her top priorities. She also assisted her husband with his sugar beet sales. Kinsey died on November 28, 2014.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and active in the women's organizations, Warren Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was a Girl and Boy Scouts Leader.

Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, particularly flowers and she had a green thumb inside and out. Baking chocolate chip cookies and oatmeal buns were her specialties, collecting candles and using them to decorate notably during holidays where her home was always warm and inviting as were the tables she so carefully set and the wonderful dishes she would prepare like her potato salad. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This grandma always made sure she had the grandchildren's favorite treats ready when they visited like "pudding in a cloud".

She is survived by her six children; grandchildren; Nicole (Jonathan) Paxson of Viginia Beach, VA, Kirk (Kelly) Larson of Indianapolis, IN, Tricia Filipi of St. Paul, MN, Shawna (Matt) Gjovik of Bemidji, MN, Lacey Riopelle (fiance Steve Nosbisch) of Walker, MN, and Zachary Riopelle of Fargo, ND; step-grandchildren, Adam (Libbey) Anderson of Denver, CO, Travis (Susan) Anderson of West Fargo, ND, Jamie (Mathias) Klaphake of Minnetonka, MN, Katie (Tim) Kelly of Houston, TX, Joshua (Teia) Gilbertson of Anchorage, AK, Chris (Miranda) Gilbertson of Bismarck, ND and Andrew Gilbertson of Ada, MN; great-grandchildren; Hunter Larson, Reid and Paige Paxson , and Dalton and Saige Gjovik; step-great-grandchildren; Payton, Lauren and Jamie Anderson, Maddee and Kylar Klaphake, Nora and Quinn Kelly, Aurora and Sheyenne Gilbertson, and Bentley, Liam and Gunnar Gilbertson; siblings, June Turnland of Scottsdale, AZ, Janice Hamrick of Oak Park Heights, MN, Calvin (Bonnye) Sorenson of Argyle, MN and Pamela (John) Witkosky of Diamond, OH, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard "Kinsey"; step-son, Tommy; son-in-law Keith Filipi, grandson Christopher Riopelle, and siblings Jack Sorenson and Connie Brooks.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.

VISITATION: 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren and one hour before services on Wednesday.

INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren, MN
