Dolly McGlynn, 90, of Warren, died on Saturday, December 14, 2019, in North Star Manor, Warren, MN.
Ruth Darline Sillerud was born on May 21, 1929, in Angus, MN, to Melvin and Ruth (Nelson) Sillerud. She was raised in Angus, attended country school, and graduated from Warren High School in 1947. On October 23, 1954, Dolly was united in marriage to Wilbur “Bud” Schantzen, in Northwood, IA. They made their home on a farm near Radium, worked the land together, and raised one son. Bud died on June 20, 1982, and Dolly was blessed to find mutual support with John “Jack” McGlynn, a recent widower himself. They were married on April 2, 1984, and the two moved off the farm and into Warren in 1986. Jack died on April 27, 1997.
Dolly kept busy as a legal secretary and bookkeeper in town. She was active in her church, Zion Lutheran Church (LCMS), for many years and was the quintessential “visitor,” spending hours and hours chatting with her family and friends. For the last few years, she has been a resident at North Star Assisted Living and brightened up many days there. Her sister, Joan Engelstad, was a lifelong companion and even gave her the name “Dolly,” when as a girl she mispronounced “Darline.” She will be greatly missed.
Dolly is survived by her son, Jay (Kristin) Schantzen; grandchildren, Isabella, Mira, and Maximus; sister, Joan Engelstad; step-sons, Robert (Jane) McGlynn, and Kendall ( Luann) McGlynn; step-grandchildren, Jeff Back, Susan Timmer, Jim Beck, Steve McGlynn, and Becki McGlynn; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late husbands; Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, John McGlynn
