Eleanor Kuznia, 88, of East Grand Forks, MN, formerly of Argyle, MN, our dear mother and grandmother was called home on May 25, 2019. Her body had grown weary here on Earth from much hard work and sacrifice, and her dear Lord picked her up and carried her home to himself.
Eleanor Lottie Grochowski was born on June 27, 1930 in rural Marshall County, MN. She was one of seven children of Walter and Plidy (Chwialkowski) Grochowski. While she only received an eighth grade education at the rural country school, the wisdom, faith, and values that she learned at the hands of her family were indispensable to her as she went forth in life. Her Catholic faith in Christ, and daily prayer of the Rosary, were her strength and solace as she maneuvered through the many seasons of her life.
When Eleanor was 18 years old, she was a bridesmaid in a wedding paired with a handsome groomsman. A relationship blossomed, and she soon married this young man, Alphonse Kuznia, on October 17, 1950. They were joined in marriage at Assumption Parish in Florian, MN where Eleanor received all her sacraments. Together on the farm, they worked hard and raised and instilled their Christian values into their six children.
Eleanor loved country living and excelled as a down home cook, gardener, and keeping up with the many needs of her family. She was up early each morning cooking hot breakfast for her children and making sure her husband's lunch box and thermos were filled. For the first sixteen years of her married life, she lived without running water and indoor plumbing in her home, and no heat in the single upstairs bedroom. But she took this in stride, and worked hard to nurture and guide her family during these hard years. Milking cows by hand, hauling water, using a ringer washer was not work for the faint of heart, but a giving heart motivated by love of her family gave her energy in attending to her tasks.
Family, and family life, were very dear to Eleanor. When surrounded by her loved ones, she was the most content and happy. She spent many years caring for and providing for the special needs of her youngest son, Gerard. He was never far from her heart.
Eleanor leaves behind her children, Roger (Bonnie) Kuznia, David (Adell) Kuznia, Dean (Jennifer) Kuznia, Daniel (Betsy) Kuznia, Mary (David) Fleck and Gerard Kuznia, along with eighteen precious grandchildren, and to date, twenty great-grandchildren with one on the way. And her youngest brother, Louie (Diane) Grochowski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse Kuznia, her parents, Walter and Plidy Grochowski, sisters, Antoinette Donarski, Theresa Kathman, brothers, Walter Jr., Ferman Grochowski, and Raymond Grochowski.
“Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:21
