Elizabeth "Bette" Edman

Elizabeth “Bette” Edman, 97, of Warren, MN, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 27, 2019, at North Valley Health Center in Warren, on the 100th anniversary of her late husband's birth.

Elizabeth Marie Jacobson was born on October 17, 1921 in Alma Township, Marshall County, MN, the daughter of John and Mayme (Cormier) Jacobson. She attended country school in rural Argyle, MN and rural Stephen, MN before graduating from Stephen High School in 1940. Elizabeth attended teacher's training in East Grand Forks, MN. On June 5, 1944, she was united in marriage to Paul Allen Edman at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen, MN, and the couple made their home in Warren. Elizabeth taught at several schools including Malm School, Wanger School, and Newfolden School; and was also the Librarian at Warren Elementary School. Paul died on April 24, 2001. In her later years, Bette was determined to live independently in the house in which she and Paul had raised their children.

She was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she was in the Altar Society and taught Catechism. Elizabeth was also a member of Warren Home and Hospital Auxiliary (as secretary); the Homemaker's Club; she volunteered at the Godel Library, running its first story hour in the old Opera House and later at the school; and participated in the ODC Bible Study and local ecumenical Bible Study for many years.

Bette had many hobbies including quilting, doing embroidery, sewing lap robes and wheelchair bags for the Good Samaritan Center, ceramics, wood refinishing, gardening and food preservation.

Left to mourn her passing are five children, Paul (Susan) Edman Jr. of Warroad, MN, Richard (Mary Beth) Edman and Daniel (Marilyn) Edman all of Warren, MN, Donna (Steve) Stricker of Pequot Lakes, MN, and Judy (Mark) Joslin of Rainier, WA; thirteen grandchildren, Scott, Allen, Jill, Matthew, Andrew, Anne, Simon, Aaron, Sally, Emily, Sarah, Khalsa and Holly; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard Jacobson of Argyle, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Paul; and brothers, Henry, Bernard, Dennis, Walton, Paul, and Roger.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Monday, March 4, 2019, at 10:30 AM, in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Warren, MN.
VISITATION: Sunday afternoon, from 3-5:00 PM, in Sts. Peter & Paul, Warren; with a Prayer Service at 4:00 PM; and one hour prior to Mass.
INTERMENT: Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Warren, MN.
