Ernie Slusar, 96, of Warren, MN, passed away on Monday night, October 16, 2017, in North Valley Health Center, Warren.
Ernest Andrew Slusar was born on March 12, 1921, to John and Helen (Bakalar) Slusar, in Tabor Township, Section 19, SE ¼. He went to grade school in District 118 and in Boxville for grades 6-8. He attended Warren High School and was in the graduating class of 1939.
Ernest was married to Enid Ann Ovsak on March 3, 1945. They had four children, Jacquelynn Kae, Jerald Ernest, Jon Steven, and Jennifer Jo.
Ernie served on the Farley Township Board; Polk County ASCS; was Warren PTA treasurer; and a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren, where he served as an usher from 1938-2008 and served on the church board. He also operated the township motorgrader from 1957-2010. In 1993 Ernest and son, Jon, received the Master Farmer Award.
Ernie’s wife, Enid, passed away on May 25, 1984, from cancer. In 1992, Ernie and Lois Piker, whom had also lost her spouse, became best friends and buddies. They enjoyed the companionship they had as they traveled together. In the winter they would go visit Ernie’s children in the warmer climates and went on a few cruises too. This continued every winter until Lois passed away on March 20, 2012.
Left to mourn his passing are his children, Jacki (Al) Gustafson of Apache Junction, AZ, Jerry (Toni) Slusar of Citrus Springs, FL, Jon (Ilene) Slusar of Tabor, MN, and Jenny Slusar (Tom Coulson) of Queen Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Chris (Kelly) Gustafson, Kevin (Michelle) Gustafson, Scott Slusar, and Mike Slusar; great-grandchildren, Chance and Jack Gustafson, Kendall and Cole Gustafson, Skylar and Hope Slusar, and Zoë and Mackenzie Slusar; and sister, Jeanette Ohnstad, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Maynard; sisters, Catherine Slusar and Darina Lindroth; brothers-in-law, Harlan Lindroth and Paul Ohnstad, and sister-in-law, Marian Slusar.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 AM on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.
VISITATION: After 5:00 PM with a 6:30 PM prayer service on Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren and one hour before services on Friday.
INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren, MN
