Gene Laurin

Gene Laurin, 82, of Argyle, MN, passed away unexpectedly in his home, on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Gene Daniel was born on April 9, 1935, in Argyle, to Daniel and Theresa (LaBine) Laurin. He was raised on the the family farm and graduated from high school at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, class of 1953. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Wolters joint Army and Air Force Base, near Mineral Wells, TX. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, he moved back to Argyle. He was united in marriage to Betty Fodness on November 16, 1963, and the couple made their home on the farm and raised two boys.

Gene was active in his community, serving on the St. Rose church council, the Cenex board of directors, and as the Bloomer Township clerk for 40 years, in addition to being a past commander of the Argyle American Legion post 353 and serving in their color guard for many years. Gene was a Soil and Water Conservation member and truly enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a lifelong farmer and loved his land but appreciated being able to head south to Arizona in the winters. Regardless of his activities and achievements, Gene's favorite thing was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty; sons, Mitch (Kerry) Laurin of Warroad, MN, and Randy (Susie) Laurin of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Blake, Brady, and Jenna Laurin; sister, Darlene (Ken) Gruhot; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 10:30 AM, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Argyle, MN.
VISITATION: One hour prior to Mass.
INTERMENT: St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Argyle.
MILITARY HONORS BY: Argyle American Legion, Post #353, and the Minnesota National Honor Guard.
