Gladys Landreville Bodell, perpetually 39, of Warren, MN, journeyed home the evening of May 8, 2019, in Bethany on the Lake, Alexandria, MN.
Gladys was born on May 2, 1934 to Edelbert and Laura (Capistran) Landreville on the farm near Argyle, MN. She graduated from Argyle High School in 1952 and married Marvin Bodell on August 5, 1952 in Stephen, MN. They made their home in Warren.
When the kids were older, Gladys went to work full-time as dining room manager at the Chalet Steak House. For the last 25 years of career, she worked for the US Postal Service. She was the first woman to work full-time as a rural mail carrier in Warren. She was a member of numerous organizations in Warren, and held offices in the VFW, American Legion Auxiliary, and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Her children credit Gladys for their strong work ethic, for valuing education, and for keeping the teachings of the Church in their daily lives. Gladys was a tough taskmaster. She assigned daily chores and enforced strict curfews (reinforced by her ability to hear a pin drop). She taught them the value of a dollar, and the importance of protecting her precious hardwood floors from her six children and their friends.
Gladys was a self-taught seamstress, a gardener and a kitchen magician (canning everything Marvin harvested and brought home).
Gladys loved dancing with Marvin, the love of her life. She loved her "birthday club" friends and socializing every chance she could. She loved traveling, and spending time with her brothers, sisters, and families.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sandy (Alan) Lawrence of St. Cloud, MN, Nancy (Justin) McBride also of St Cloud, and Sheila (Bob) Hoerner of Warren, MN; her sons Robert (Sue) of Sauk Center, MN, James (Carolyn) of Minot, ND and Michael (Paula) of Roseau, MN; twelve grandchildren, Kris Lawrence, Jocelyn Worden, Miranda and Joel McBride, Renae and Rachel Kmecik, Christopher and Jesse Bodell, Kellen and Ryan Bodell, Kelsey Mellmer, and Kyle Bodell; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Theresa Enge of Fargo, ND, and Olive ( Ray) Johnson of Duluth, MN; her brothers, Tom (Judy) of Buffalo, WY and Louis (Deloris) of Argyle, MN; and her brother-in-law, Don Butman of Woodland Hills, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin on March 26, 2002, her sister Adele Butman and her parents.
