Joel Flaten, 69, of Warren, MN, passed away on October 2, 2019, at the Robbinsdale Villa after a lengthy illness.

Joel Andrew was born on March 23, 1950, at the Warren Hospital to Andrew W. and Elda J. (Peterson) Flaten.  He was raised on the family farm in rural Warren.  He graduated from Warren High School in 1968 and then earned a degree from Moorhead State University in 1972 in Industrial Technology, with a minor in Business Management.  He also attended Northland Community College in Thief River Falls taking a Computer Assisted Drafting course in his later years.

Joel worked in construction trades and carpentry.  He was an independent contractor selling and constructing for Wick Buildings.  His craftsmanship still stands in the buildings he raised for Nordic Fiberglass and the Polk County Historical Society, among others.

Pastimes included visiting and having coffee with friends.  He always enjoyed a good meal.  Joel also enjoyed deer hunting with family and friends.

Joel's family would like to thank the caregivers and friends who walked a lot of roads with him over the years in his various health issues.

His most recent goal was to return to his friends at home at the Landmark Center in Warren.

Joel is survived by his son, Justin Linder and his mother, Henrietta; siblings, David (Gloria), Dianne, Duane, James, Mark (Judy), Doris (Lloyd) Wang, Beverly (Ron) Neve, and Karen Flaten; aunts and uncles, including his special uncle, Alvin 'Pat' (Grace) Peterson; many nieces and nephews; and his cousins (many of whom he counted among his close friends).

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Dorothy (Warren) Hamrick and Brenda Faye.   

FUNERAL SERVICE:Monday, October 14, 2019, at 10:30 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Warren, MN.  - Rev. Dick Luedtke presiding.
VISITATION: Sunday evening, October 13, 2019, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at DuBore Funeral Home; and one hour before services at the church.
INTERMENT: Delayed until further notice. Melo Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Angus, MN.
