Joyce Holter

November 29, 1924 ~ April 19, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Joyce Holter, 92, of Warren, MN, formerly of Oslo, MN, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at North Valley Health Center in Warren.

Joyce Elizabeth Holter was born on November 29, 1924 in Oak Park Township to Bernard and Blanche (Larson) Holter. She was raised there and graduated from Oslo Public School in 1942. After attending North Star College for teachers training, she taught at various schools in the Warren area. On December 27, 1946, she married John Holter and they made their home in Bigwoods Township. In 1951, they moved to International Falls, MN where he worked in the paper mill. After several years, the family moved back to Bigwoods and settled on the family farm where they farmed. After the flood of 1997, they moved off the farm to Warren. John died on February 3, 2003. In April of 2016, Joyce moved to the North Star Assisted Living in Warren where she continued her Oslo connections with a weekly card group.

Joyce was a member of Bigwoods Lutheran Church where she was in the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Oslo American Legion Auxiliary.

Along with birding, she loved her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved to read books and had acquired a large library by the end of her life. Joyce was always asking how and what her grand and great-grandchildren were doing. Life on the farm usually meant pets and she was very fond of her cats and dogs. In their later years, she and John traveled extensively, even making a trip to where John was born in Norway. They also saw many sites in the U.S.

She is survived by her son, Jon (Sue) Holter of Warren, MN, daughter, Julie (Todd) Risteigen of rural Argyle, MN; brothers, Richard Holter of Cohasset, MN and Terry (Cindy) Holter of Bemidji, MN; sister-in-law, Peggy Holter of Bemidji, MN; grandchildren, Brandon (Erika) Yoney of Moorhead, MN, Michael (Jennifer) Bremseth of Grand Forks, ND, Andrea (John) Nelson of Halstad, MN, Erik (Becky) Holter of Fargo, ND and Christopher (Sandy) Bremseth of Washington, DC; great-grandchildren, Helen, Hannah, Leah, Titus, Annika, Boden, Jonathan, Joseph, Alexis, Natalie, Cameron, Brady, Noah and Isaiah; son-in-law, Charlie Bremseth of Grand Forks, ND; and beloved dog, Penny.
