Marlene Sommers, 83, of Warren, MN, passed away in her home on Friday, August 25, 2017, in Northstar Assisted Living, Warren.
Marlene Carol Knoll was born on July 22, 1934, on the family farm in Radium, MN, to Arnold and Lucy (Horter) Knoll. She was raised on the farm and attended Warren High School. She was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Radium, even after moving into Warren after she graduated in 1952.
Marlene was united in marriage to Gordon Sommers on September 1, 1957, in Immanuel Lutheran. They continued to make their home in Warren, where Marlene would work for Marshall County for 42 years in the offices of Extension Services and Social Services. She was an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Lutheran Hour Ministries, the TRF Quilting Guild, Warren Senior Citizens Club, and the First Lutheran Quilters group. In addition to all of this, she was the organist at her church for 67 years.
Though she would hate to boast, Marlene was inducted in the Warren Bowling Hall of Fame, and was Marshall County Outstanding Senior Citizen, 2008.
Marlene is survived by her children, Scott (Phyllis) Sommers of Warren, and Leigh (Dean) Yeasley of Winchester, CA; three grandchildren, Jeremey Yeasley, Melissa Yeasley, and Krista (Pablo) Garcia; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty (Ed Huderle) Knoll of Warren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, who passed away in 2000; her parents; sister, Carmen (Vernon) Olson; and brother, Franklin Knoll.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to: North Valley Health Center, North Star Assisted Living,
or Lutheran Hour Ministries.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 AM on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Radium, MN.
VISITATION: After 5:30 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday at DuBore Funeral Home in Warren, MN and one hour before services at the church on Friday.
INTERMENT: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Radium, MN
