Paul Becker, 62, of Warren, formerly of Brainerd, MN, died on Saturday evening, August 24, 2019, at North Star Manor, with his family at his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Paul Arthur Becker was born on April 26, 1957, to Walter and Louise (Torkelson) Becker, in Lisbon, ND. The family moved around for much of Paul's childhood, following his Dad's job. After living in Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Minnesota, and South Dakota, the family finally put down roots in Warren, where Paul graduated from high school in 1975. He attended Bemidji State University and was very single-minded in pursuit of his education. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Business in 1979 (right on time) and began working for K-Mart Corporation. After several years of being shifted around within the company, Paul settled in Brainerd, MN, where he worked as a tax auditor for the state for over 30 years.
He liked to say he “worked with numbers” such as 1,2,3... He was truly adept at analyzing data, and liked watching the market and the challenges of investing. As an unmarried and successful man, Paul knew he had the responsibility and privilege of taking care of his mother. They traveled together to visit family and he loved spending time with her. As his final illness progressed and he needed more care, Paul even moved into the same nursing home as his mother so they could be nearer to one another.
In his free time, Paul enjoyed biking and cross-country skiing; the winter activities around Brainerd being his favorite.
Paul is survived by his mother, Louise; siblings, Connie (Ed) Duncan of Phoenix, AZ, John (Liane) Becker of Eagan, MN, Gabriel (Lyle) Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN, and Robert (Nancy) Becker of Langdon, ND; nine nieces and nephews, Corey, Ian, and Caitlin (Kyle), Gretchen (Adam), Molly (Aaron) and Tyler, and Nick, Courtney (Josh), and Chris; nine great-nieces and great-nephews, Hannah, Andrew, Bennett, Marah, Ihle, Myla, Eli, Josiah, and Nolan; aunt, Marie Braaten of Forman, ND; and uncle, Oliver Torkelson of Strandquist, MN.
Paul had a strong faith in our Lord and we have hope that God will hold him in His care.
