Paula Laudal Obituary

Paula Laudal, 48, lifelong resident of Warren, MN, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND, with her family by her side.

Paula Rae Laudal was born on August 4, 1970, in Warren, to Larry and Donna (Mackie) Laudal. She was raised on a farm 8 miles east of Warren and grew up working on the Family farm  alongside her parents, driving the grain cart from her teenage years into adulthood. She graduated from Warren High School in 1989 and attended UND. After she received her degree in Social Work, Paula began her lifelong vocation of advocating for children and families.

She worked for Polk County Social Services for several years, but her life changed forever when her daughter Sydney was born. As soon as Sydney came into her life, Paula, dropped what she was doing to stay home with her; opening a daycare herself to make it work. She followed Sydney into school and worked as a social worker for WAO school for twelve years (right until her daughter graduated). As she couldn't follow Sydney to college, Paula then joined her sister, Stacy, and worked along side her at with Marshall County Social Services in child protection until her passing.

In all her social work, Paula never counted the cost to herself. She gave her all to every child she helped: from throwing her own parties for adopted children to helping dozens of students make graduation, Paula was “lovingly stubborn” and quite determined to help anyone reach their full potential. Her creativity was unmatched and she will be remembered for always finding and filling requests for treats and obscure gifts, for being an impossible act to follow during Treat-Week at work, and for devising all sorts of complicated wrapping at Christmas. Put simply, she was the “Queen of Gifts,” and Paula gave of herself endlessly.

She loved animals, but never “owned” any, preferring to live alongside them instead. Paula enjoyed being the “life of the golf course” and enjoying Sioux hockey games in recent years, and loved to visit, being able to socialize with total strangers like they were family. She will be remembered for many things, including her sense of humor; but social work, family, friends, and most importantly, being Sydney's mom, were truly at the center of her life.

Paula is survived by her daughter, Sydney; parents, Larry and Donna; sister, Stacy Laudal; longtime partner L.J Moran; niece and nephews, Conner (children, Jack and Ivory), Chase, and Kaitlyn Anderson; aunts, Sheila (David) Siegler, Jessica (Joe) Paschke, and Lori Daly; and cousins, Shelli Beliveau, Preston and Garrett Sweeney, and John Daly. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
