Phyllis Jorgensen

Phyllis June (Gilbertson) Jorgensen of Stephen, MN, passed away peacefully from her long and happy life on June 11, 2019 at Martin Luther Care Center in Bloomington, MN.

Phyllis was born June 12, 1924, in Hawley, MN, to Oscar and Ruth Gilbertson. She was baptized into the Lutheran church at an early age. She attended her early years of school in the Hawley school system, and graduated from high school at the Northwest School (AC) at Crookston, MN. It was there at the AC where she met the love of her life, Donald Jorgensen. They were joined in marriage on November 23, 1945 and enjoyed 68 years of life together. Don passed away on April 8, 2013.

After their marriage and Donald’s discharge from the Navy, they lived and worked for a brief while in southern California, and then moved to rural Stephen, MN, and lived and farmed the family farm there until they retired and moved several years later into Stephen, to the Tamarac apartments, where they made many new friends and also were close to friends they'd had for so many years. They loved all of them.

Phyllis was an active member of the St. Petri and First Lutheran Church of Stephen, an active member of the Woman’s Club of Stephen, Happy Corner Homemakers, First Lutheran Quilters, Stephen Senior citizens, and loved making quilts for her grandchildren for their high school graduations. She also loved working with her flowers on the farm. She was a great farm wife, and loved family get togethers. Also, in her younger years she loved golfing, bowling, curling, singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school, and was an active leader of our 4-H club.

Left to mourn her passing are her children, Bob (Colette) Jorgensen of Shakopee, MN, and Brad Jorgensen of Fargo North Dakota; sister in law Christine (Don) Olson, of Spokane, WA, and sister in law Phyllis Gilbertson, of Rapid City, SD; her grandchildren, Matt (Greta) Jorgensen, Adam (Brittany) Jorgensen, and Alex (Sarah) Jorgensen; her great grandchildren Brekke and Maren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents Oscar and Ruth, her brother, Gordy, and her son Brad's wife, Lori.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2019 at First Lutheran Church in Stephen, MN.

VISITATION: One hour before the services.

INTERMENT: St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, rural Stephen, MN
