Roger Sundby, 79, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Roger Kent Sundby was born on November 2, 1939 in Warren, MN, the son of Vernon and Gladys (Heddan) Sundby. He was raised in Stephen and graduated from Stephen High School in 1957. Roger married Donna (Fredrickson) on June 9th, 1962, with whom they had their three children, Troy, Jeffrey and Tricia. Roger managed Midland Co-op from 1957 to 1982. They moved to Grand Forks in 1982 where he worked at Rydell Chevrolet and Hansen Ford. He also enjoyed working with his dear friend Ken Towers at Italian Moon and Wendy’s. Raised as a farm kid, he stayed true to his roots and enjoyed helping Jimmy Sundby and Leif Aakre on their farms.
Roger married Marilyn Linnell on November 11, 2011. Roger and Marilyn were loyal fans of UND athletics and enjoyed watching basketball, football, hockey and volleyball. They never missed an opportunity to grab a cup of coffee or socialize with friends. He loved watching sprint car races and traveling to support the Sundby owned BDS Motorsports sprint car team. Roger always took great pride in caring for his yard. Anybody that really knew Roger knew of his perfectionism for lawn care; the straighter the lines the happier he was! Roger was also an avid collector of clocks with more than 150 in his collection. He also proudly enjoyed supporting his grandchildren’s athletics and academics.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Marilyn and Roger’s three children: Troy Roger (Tammi) Sundby of Fargo, ND, Jeffrey Vernon Sundby of Grand Forks, ND and Tricia Dawn Johnson of Grand Forks, ND. Roger will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Amanda, Ashley, Erin, Max, Jay, Morgan and Jace. He is also survived by incredible brothers: Donald Sundby, Jerry (MaryAnn) Sundby and David Sundby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Gladys; two brothers, Jimmy Sundby (infant) and Arvin Sundby, sister, Fae Anderson and Donna Sundby.
