Sandra Forslund, 71, of Warren, MN, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on Saturday evening, September 21, 2019.
Sandra Marie Stone was born on the Fourth of July, 1948, to Hal and Lollie (Gulseth) Stone, in Thief River Falls, MN. She spent her entire childhood in Warren and was Confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church. As a girl, Sandra fell in love with the neighbor boy, Laurie Forslund. She graduated from Warren High School in 1967 and was married to her high school sweetheart, Laurie, on June 4, 1967. They briefly lived in St. Louis Park and Thief River Falls before moving back home. In 1969, they bought Warren Grocery and ran both the store and Laurie's insurance agency out of the same building. They also co-owned and operated the Pepper Mill restaurant for a number of years.
When her first grandchild was born, Sandra changed her focus from using her business to serve the community to using it to serve her family. She closed the grocery store in 1988 and opened Just for Kids daycare in its place. Sandra would help raise her grandchildren and many others in town. “Nana,” as she was known by so many of the children in her life, decided to close her daycare in 2006. In the last few years, Sandra regularly volunteered at the ODC and Grace United Methodist Church, where she had been a member since marriage.
Sandra is survived by her daughters, Brenda Borowicz of Warren, MN and Kristen (Nick) Thompson of Bemidji, MN; daughter-in-law, Jessica (Kelly) Homan of Beardsley, MN; grandchildren, Thomas (Jennifer) Borowicz, Kyle Borowicz, and Brett Borowicz, Jayvon O'Quinn, Jill Sandra Borowicz, Elizabeth Thompson, Andrew Thompson, and Laura Thompson, Chandler Homan, Taviah Homan, and Leah Homan; great-grandson, Henry Borowicz; siblings, Hollie (Mike) Cheney, Jeanine (Wally) Rasmussen, Kathy Williams, and Joel Stone; aunt, Marilyn Chruszch; several nieces and nephews; best friend, Mari Lee Stenerson; and all those children who dearly still called her “Nana.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laurie, who died on October 13, 2005; and son, Christopher, who died on September 15, 2008.
