Shirley Sundby, 83, of Argyle, MN, passed away peacefully in her home in Warren, MN, on Sunday, September 9, 2018.
Shirley Ann was born on May 30, 1935, in Warren, the only child of Tony and Helen (Witkowski) Deleski. She was raised in Argyle and graduated from high school in the Class of 1953. During high school she worked at the local movie theater and she was married to Arden Sundby in August following her graduation. The young couple made their home in Argyle, and Shirley was a stay at home mother.
Once all the children were in school, Shirley worked several different jobs including cooking at the school, working for Floyd and Tommy Sczepanski during potato harvest, Valley Coverall, Sundby's Cafe, and The Farmer Dell. She was a lifelong member of St. Rose Catholic Church and was active in parish life, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She enjoyed bowling, visiting with her Catholic Daughter and Red Hat Society friends, reading, and putting puzzles together. She particularly enjoyed her card group: both in playing the games and in cooking meals for the ladies. Her family being nearby was so important in her life and she especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up; attending all their school activities without fail; and cooking for them, including her famous Polish “kluski” dumplings.
Shirley is survived by her children, Lynn (Pam) Sundby, Becky (Alvin) Nybladh, Craig (Tammy) Sundby, Terry ( Patty) Sundby, and Dawn (Allen) Erickson; grandchildren, Jenna Grabowska, Jesse and Jaden Sundby, Traci Kroll, Tara Jarshaw, Tamara Benitt, and Tina Safranski, Austin and Jacob Sundby, Stephanie Woods, Cody and Mason Sundby, Heidi Wesolowski, and Dillon Erickson; and 19 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Blake and Jordan Sundby, and Jamie Erickson; and twin great-granddaughters, Nicole and Natalie Kroll.
