Wayne Bergeron, 72, longtime resident of Argyle, MN, passed away at his home on the lake in Hines, MN, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, July 12, 2018.
Wayne Phillip was born on March 23, 1946, in Crookston, MN, to Kenneth and Eleanor (Dufault) Bergeron. He grew up in Argyle and graduated in the class of 1964. He graduated from the Wahpeton School of Science before enlisting in the US Navy in 1967. Wayne proudly served on the ships that retrieved missions Apollo 11 and 12. After his honorable discharge as a Machinery Repairman Second Class in 1971, Wayne returned home to farm, and proudly worked the land, taking joy in bringing forth life from the soil.
On February 4, 1978, Wayne was united in marriage to Gerrie Gustner at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Argyle. The couple would raise two children, Maggie and Jon, and he would share with them his love of family, nature, Chevy pickups, John Deere machinery, and his “Mr. Fixit” skills. After retiring in 2016, Wayne and Gerrie moved to a new lake home in Hines, where he planned to live “the Good Life,” fishing with his wife and grandchildren for the rest of his days.
Over the years, Wayne was very active in his community, serving on the St. Rose Church, Argyle Public Schools, and Wanger Township (for 38 years) Boards. He was also in the Wheat Growers, Argyle Co-op Warehouse, and American Crystal Sugar Beet Growers Associations. His membership in the Argyle American Legion was very important to him and he served with distinction in the color guard for many years.
Wayne will be remembered for his gentle spirit, love of visiting, and his dedication to his family, friends, and community; may God Bless his memory.
In addition to his wife of over 40 years, Gerrie, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Maggie (Nick Gaudette) Bergeron of Minneapolis, MN; son, Jon (Amber) of Newfolden, MN; four grandchildren, Julia, Andrew, Gus, and Lola; and siblings, Gayle (Jeanne) of Thompson, ND, Dwight (Julie) of Devils Lake, ND, and Rosemary (Bill) Kuznia of Gooding, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Eleanor; and sister, Linda Bergeron.
