Allen Converse Obituary

Allen Converse, 62, of Halma, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 3, 2025, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare of Hallock, MN.

Allen Paul was born on January 25, 1963, in Laconia, New Hampshire, to Rudy and Betty (Wilmot) Converse. He lived in Holderness, NH until he was ten, then his father brought the family west to farm. The Converses raised dairy cows and Allen fell in love with the animals. He graduated from Karlstad  High School in 1981. When most of the family moved back east, Allen stayed on: he knew he had been called to be a farmer. He also had fallen in love…

Allen met a beautiful lady at the Pizza Factory in Karlstad. Allen was united in marriage to Susan  Kazmierczak on October 25, 1986, in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church of Florian, MN. Allen and Sue made their  home near the Converse farm before settling into their present farm in Halma. In those early years he worked for area farmers and  both Foerster and Loeffler gravel companies. What Allen truly  enjoyed was farming and being his own boss. He had a knack for quietly  observing a problem- then going out and fixing it. He loved the  miracle of life, when a new calf came into the world by his hand,  and watching his crops come up. Allen was so good with his nephews and nieces, giving them rides on his toys and teaching them many things. He loved his wife and they  enjoyed 38 years of marriage side-by-side.

In what free time he had, Allen enjoyed countless games of pinochle, playing Yahtzee deep into the night, and going into town to visit his friends. He was given the nickname “Smiley” for he was always quiet and observant, yet always smiling. He loved to hang out with others who were hardworking men like himself.

He was a good man who will be deeply missed by all those who benefited  from his wisdom, his labor, and his love.

Allen is survived by his wife, Susan Kazmierczak-Converse; siblings, Mark (Brenda) Converse, Timothy (Kim) Converse, Kathy  (Mike) McCartney, Peter (Meghan) Converse, Stephen Converse (Sheri), and Jon Converse; many nieces and nephews; and his relatives on the Kazmierczak side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Betty Converse; and in-laws, Henry and JoAnn Kazmierczak.

FUNERAL LITURGY: Privately held the week of February 9, 2025, in St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. Karlstad, MN.
INTERMENT: In the Spring of 2025, in Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Florian, MN.
