Arvid Sten

Arvid Sten, 79, of rural Argyle, MN, passed away on Thursday evening, October 21, 2021 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Arvid Gunnar Sten was born on June 1, 1942 in Warren, MN, the son of Gunnar and Betty (Dufault) Sten. He was raised in Stephen, MN where he attended school. Arvid met Judy Kostrzewski on a Friday night (the day before the deer hunting opener) at her Junior class play. Judy always joked with Arvid that she shined on Friday at the play and hunted on Saturday where she got her two legged deer. Arvid was in the US Army from 1964 – 1966 and he served in Vietnam. On February 25, 1965, he was united in marriage to Julia “Judy” Kostrzewski at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen. After Arvid's discharge from the military, the young couple settled on a farmstead east of Argyle. He worked for Witcher Construction building commercial building for many years before going to work at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls, MN. He retired in 2006.

He was a member of the Stephen American Legion Post 390.

Arvid loved the farmstead that he and Judy lived at during their married life. As a younger man, he enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Judy of rural Argyle, MN; two children, Annette Sten of Thief River Falls, MN and Michael (Julie) Sten of Bagley, MN; grandson, Shannen Pikarski; granddaughter, Charlotte Pikarski (Cris); great-grandchildren, Julian, Blade, Treyten, Avanah and Santiago and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gunnar and Betty.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10:30 AM on Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen, MN.

VISITATION: After 5:30 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Thursday at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

INTERMENT: St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery, Stephen, MN
