Betty Radeke Carter Obituary

Betty Radeke Carter, 90, of Red Lake Falls, MN, passed away on Sunday morning, January 30, 2022 at North Star Manor in Warren, MN.

Betty Joan Turner was born on July 23, 1931 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Tom and Rachel (Stewart) Turner who were immigrants from Wales and Scotland. She was raised during the years of the Great Depression. Betty Jo, at the age of 16, met Eugene William Radeke at a dance and two years later they were married. They made their home in Des Moines. They had two sons born in Des Moines before Gene was transferred to Red Lake Falls, MN where he managed the Red Lake Falls Silo plant. After he managed the Silo plant for two years, Gene bought the plant. They had another son born in Red Lake Falls. Betty raised their three sons and she was active in Red Lake Falls where she enjoyed golfing and playing cards. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and in 1979 she was the Minnesota Department President of the MN American Legion Auxiliary. Gene died in 1986. After Gene died, Betty moved to Long Beach, CA where her three sisters lived. She worked at a hospital in Long Beach. After seven years at the hospital, Betty met and married Nick Carter. They lived in Seal Beach, CA. Nick died in 2010. Betty moved back to Red Lake Falls in 2015 to be closer to family.

Left to mourn her passing are her two sons, Jeff (Colleen) Radeke of Argyle, MN and Dan (Donna) Radeke of St. Hilaire, MN; seven grandchildren, Keith, Brent, Beth, Josh, Nick, Brad and Sami; seven great-grandchildren, Carson, Kyleigh, Chase, Braxton, Corbin, Oliver and Rhys and brother, John Turner of Des Moines, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gene Radeke and Nick Carter; son, Douglas Radeke and three sisters, Pauline, Maxine and Evelyn.

Graveside services will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN in the Spring/Summer of 2022.
