Carol Borchert, 85, of Warren, MN, formerly of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Monday morning, November 13, 2023, at North Star Manor in Warren.
Carol Odina Thompson was born on July 7, 1938, in Grand Forks, the daughter of George and Bergit (Hovet) Thompson. She was raised in Grand Forks, where she graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1956. Carol attended the University of North Dakota. In 1963, she married Clinton Borchert and they made their home in Grand Forks. Carol worked as a sportswear buyer for Herbergers. In the late 1990s she moved to Ventura, CA, where she lived with her sister Elaine Olson. Carol moved to Warren in the early 2000s to be closer to family. She worked at the WAO Elementary School cafeteria for several years.
She volunteered at the Godel Memorial Library and the Warren Senior Center. Carol enjoyed sewing and quilting. Family was very important to Carol, especially her grandchildren.
Left to mourn her passing are her children Jered (Angela) Borchert of Coon Rapids, MN, Gavin Borchert (Alonzo Casas) of Seattle, WA, and Nicky (Kevin) Johnson of Warren, MN; six grandchildren, Jaeden Lovin, Koby Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Ella Borchert, Jack Borchert and Greta Borchert; siblings Elaine Olson of Ventura, CA and Merton Thompson of Alamo, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bergit Thompson; siblings Vernon Thompson, Reuben Thompson, Tillman Thompson, Bennett Thompson and Phyllis Erickson; and her former husband, Clinton.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2024 in Grand Forks, ND.
