Cheryl "Cheri" Mattson

Cheryl “Cheri” Mattson, age 77 of Warren, MN passed away Wednesday April 26th, 2023, at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in East Grand Forks, MN after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Cheri was born in Hallock, MN on March 5th, 1946, daughter of Louis and Dorothy Deere. She grew up on a farm near Kennedy, MN where she developed her love of animals taking care of her horses, dogs and cats. Cheri graduated from Kennedy High School in 1964 and then attended Bemidji State for two years where she fell in love with her soon to be husband, Bob Mattson.

Cheri and Bob were married on October 1st, 1966, at Maria Lutheran Church in Kennedy, MN and made their home in Warren, MN where Bob got a job teaching high school. Cheri was a life-long Lutheran and she and Bob were members of First Lutheran Church in Warren, MN. They had three children along the way - Gretchen, Bethany and then Kelly in addition to a number of weiner dogs including Alfie, Duffy, Sunny, Reggie, Sally, Maddie, Jimmy and Billie and cats Kitty and Rosie. Cheri spent 42 years working for Marshall County and the State of Minnesota as an electronic court reporter and loved her work. She retired in 2014.

Cheri was a busy lady and enjoyed golfing with Bob and with her friends on ladies’ league night. Cheri enjoyed attending her kids sporting and music events, birthday club, reading and spending time with her family. In 1993 Cheri and Bob bought a cabin on Lake Seven in Vergas, MN and they spent as much time there as possible playing cards on the deck, golfing, playing bingo at Billy’s and swimming on floaties with the dogs. Cheri was quick to laugh and had amazing penmanship. She will be remembered fondly by everyone that knew her.

Cheri is survived by her three children, Gretchen Mattson of Minneapolis, Bethany Mattson of St. Louis Park and Kelly Mattson of Warren; her husband of 56 years Bob; her granddaughter, Molly (Alexander) Smith of Burnsville MN; her great granddaughters, Eve and Audrey and her sister, Beverly of Kennedy, MN.

Cheri was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Vyrlee, Jeanne and Louis.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.

VISITATION: One hour before services.

INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery – Warren, MN
