D. James Gerszewski

James “Jimmy” Gerszewski, 90, of rural Oslo, MN, passed away on Sunday morning, March 7, 2021 at his home with surrounded by his loving family.

Dominick James Gerszewski was born on July 30, 1930 in Oslo, MN, the son of Dominick and Suzanna (Paschke) Gerszewski. He was a lifelong resident of Oslo and he graduated from Oslo High School. On November 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, Virginia Sutliff of Warroad, MN. They made their home in Oslo where they raised their seven children. James farmed until 1966 and had to quit due to his health. He started a sales route in 1967 covering Minnesota and North Dakota selling auto parts, tires and oil. In 1979, he built an automotive shop in Oslo and started Jim's Auto Parts.

He was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oslo and the Grand Forks Knights of Columbus.

James loved spending time with his grandchildren and following their various activities. He spent many hours over the years babysitting them. He enjoyed cutting wood with his kids and grandkids for the wood stove. James liked to play cards, garden, travel and doing puzzles. He traveled to Hawaii, Bahamas, Rome, Spain, Germany, St. Martin, Aruba, Mexico and Alaska. James and his family took many family trips together. He thoroughly enjoyed his wife's cooking and attending social events with family and friends.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 60 years, Virginia; children, Jerome (Diane) Gerszewski, Theresa (Scott) Lind, Susan (Joel) Slominski, Mary (Rocky) Jewett, Jane Gerszewski, Betty (Alan) Borst and Mark (Mara) Gerszewski; grandchildren, Marty, Jamie, Brandi, Ashley, Callie, Olivia, Zane, Jolene, Chris, Aaron, Callie, Nicole, Dominic and Jacob; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Sr. Dominica Gerszewski, David Gerszewski and Dennis (Felicia) Gerszewski; many nieces and nephews and very special family friend, Elaine Beck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominick and Suzanna and siblings, Irene Czapiewski, Sr. Jolenta Gerszewski, Delphine Gerszewski and Cyril Gerszewski.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March, 10, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oslo, MN.

VISITATION: 4:30 – 7:00 PM with a 6:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oslo, MN and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

INTERMENT: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Oslo, MN
