David Floyd, 71, of rural Warren, MN, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
David Byron Floyd was born on January 24, 1951 in Tampa, FL, the son of Louis Byron Floyd and his mother. He was raised in Alabama and Tampa where he attended school. At the age of 17, he joined the US Army and he served in Vietnam. Upon his discharge, the combat veteran returned to the United States. David worked as a journeyman electrician for Keeker Electric around the Phoenix, AZ area for fifteen years. In 1993, he married Julie Horgen Sevigny. They lived in Arizona for five years before moving north and settling on a farmstead in rural Warren.
He was a very good silversmith and he also enjoyed rockhounding. He loved living in the country and he enjoyed taking care of his farmstead.
David was instrumental in the organization of the Walk to the Wall in Flagstaff to visit the Traveling Vietnam Memorial. He was one of the first veterans to get support at the Fargo VA for PTSD.
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Vietnam Veterans of Arizona and the Phoenix American Legion.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Julie; three stepchildren, Kenneth Sevigny Jr. of Moorhead, MN, Daniel (Bobbie Jo) Sevigny of Warren, MN and Genevieve (Christopher) Sevigny-Berdahl of Moorhead, MN; four grandchildren, Albert, Rihana, Miles and Killian; sisters, Jenni Balis, Alice Floyd (Carl Caine) and Mary (Steve) Roskoski; brother, Pat (Debbie) Tornwall and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Louis and Geneva; grandson, Nicholas Sevigny; paternal grandparents and many other relatives.
Private family services will be held.
