Donald Nelson, 87, of Warren, MN, passed away late Saturday evening, November 16, 2024 at North Star Manor in Warren.
Donald Oscar Nelson was born on September 5, 1937 in Warren, the son of Oscar and Crystal (Ivery) Nelson. He was a lifelong resident of the Warren area and he graduated from Warren High School in 1955. In 1956, Donald attended Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, ND. After his schooling, Donald worked at the Ford Motor Company in Minneapolis, MN. He served in the US Army 9th Infantry Division from 1958-1959. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Warren where he farmed. He was the fourth generation of his family to farm in Marshall County. On June 18, 1966, Donald was united in marriage to Janice Larson at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN. They made their home in Warren where they raised their three children, David, Jill and Janelle.
Donald was an active member of the Warren Covenant Church. He received the Master Farmer Award at the 1990 Town and Country Banquet.
He had several hobbies which included thinking about farming, talking about farming and farming. Donald's life revolved around Faith, Family and Farming. He also found some time to bowl in league during the winter months and he enjoyed attending auction sales.
Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Janice; children, David (Stacie) Nelson of Warren, MN, Jill (Bryan) Johnson of Beatty, SK, Canada and Janelle (Doug) Van Dorn of Dacono, CO; grandchildren, Emily, Courtney, Kylie and Dalton Nelson, Bailey (Jared) Wicks, Lyndon Johnson and Brooke (Jake) Nickel and Alesha, Breanna, Annika and Elianna Van Dorn; one great-grandchild, Reyha Grose; siblings, Margaret (Sam) Tyree, Kurt Nelson, Muriel (Bill) Scofield and Marlene (Allan) Shimpa and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Crystal and siblings, Maxine Drake, Grace Nelson, Margorie Davis and Cliff Nelson.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Warren Covenant Church in Warren, MN.
VISITATION: One hour before services at the church.
INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren, MN.
