Dorothy Josephine Margaret Mary (Przybylski) Woinarowicz lived a long life, much like her name, leaving this world on Monday morning, November 18, 2024, in Valley Senior Living of Grand Forks, ND.
She was born north of Stephen, MN on August 4, 1923, and baptized at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Florian. Less than three months later the family started attending St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen because it was closer when driving a horse drawn open sleigh with a new baby. She received her early sacraments, was married, and buried from St. Stephen. She attended Donnelly School and Stephen High School, which she had to leave during her junior year to help on the farm as her mother had health issues.
She was a farmer's daughter, a farmer's wife, a farmer's mother, and a farmer's grandmother. She enjoyed the farm life until her death, living in Stephen for almost her entire life. Her husband, Casmer taught her how to drive at her parent's farm before they got married (on June 16, 1942). It has been said there were several impromptu chicken dinners during the lessons- but drive she did! She helped Casmer move equipment from field to field and get parts, as well as brought meals out to the field during harvest.
After his death on August 17, 1974. she continued to drive to the farm, watching the crops come up and later being harvested. It was the one thing she missed most when she gave up her car late in life. When somebody came to visit her, their first job had to be taking her for a ride in the country to look at the fields. She could tell you who was working each section of land. Dorothy worked as a cook at the Stephen school and enjoyed seeing Tom's boys in the lunch line as much as they enjoyed seeing her. Her grand and great-grandkids gave her a lot of joy. She loved to take care of them until they learned how to say "no." Her home was full of their pictures and they all enjoyed her delicious Christmas cookies- she knew every grandchild's favorite.
When the Tamarack first opened, she sold her house and moved in as one of its first residents. She enjoyed living with people she had known most of her life.
Casmer and Dorothy raised five children, four of whom who survive her: Diane (Duane) Michalski, Mary Jane (Terry) Sylvester, Dawn (Steve) Coleman, and Tom (Ann) Woinarowicz. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joyce Woinarowicz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Helen (Banaszewski) Przybylski; husband, Casmer "Charlie;" son, Richard; and siblings, Eugene, Adele, and Genivieve.
