Ed Palmer, 93 years, 11 months and 25 days old, of Warren, MN, did not “pass away,” but rather his soul left his body and went to the Lord on Saturday morning, November 2, 2024 at North Star Manor in Warren.
George Edward Palmer was born on November 8, 1930, in Warren to George Alonzo “Lonny” and Minnie (Yuergens) Palmer. The fourth of five children, he was raised on a farm his parents rented (now the Johnson Farm, west of Warren) and moved into town when he was eight. He grew up in Grace United Methodist Church and began singing for funerals at the age of seventeen. Ed graduated from Warren High School with the class of 1948, and enlisted in the US Army in 1952. Serving in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1954, Ed described his time as a Private First Class as “Doing whatever anybody told you to do.” Ed was married to Sylvia Larson with whom he had three sons. The family moved to California in the early 1960's where Ed was a parts-man for Ford, a job he'd held at Nelson Motors before leaving town.
During his California years, Ed worked hard and helped raise his sons. Following his retirement in 1993, Ed “flew the coop” home to Warren, where he'd longed to be for decades. In 1998, Ed's life was changed forever after singing at the funeral of a local farmer. His wife, Beryl (Bossman) Truhn, Ed had known since childhood and the two hit it off. At the tender age of 68, Ed was married to Beryl on September 25, 1999, and he said they both felt young again! Some of his happiest times were spent with Beryl and he was grateful for her companionship, love, and for all the years they spent together: he never once regretted a long life.
Ed's memory will be kept in the hearts of many in his beloved community.
He is survived by his wife, Beryl; sons, Randy Palmer of California, David (Wendy) Palmer of Hackensack, MN, and Dana Palmer of Nevis, MN; Beryl's children, Vicki (John) Nicodemo and Robert Truhn (Tom Youngberg) all of Surprise, AZ and Scott Truhn of Texas; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren from both sides of the family.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Lorene (Bunty) Engelstad; Robert Palmer (killed in WWII); Lois (Robert) Swanson, and Dick Palmer.
