Eleanor Kostrzewski, 88, of Argyle, MN, died on Friday evening, November 28, 2025, in North Star manor of Warren, MN, with her family at her side.
Eleanor Cecelia was born on May 30, 1937, on the family farm ten miles west of Stephen, MN, the fifth-oldest of 18 children born to John and Elizabeth (Mager) Woinarowicz. She left school early to care for her younger siblings, learning how to keep a household running from an early age. On September 30, 1961, she was married to Daniel Kostrzewski and they made their home, first east of Stephen, then in Argyle's “French Town.” She'd do anything for anybody, and had so much patience with her eight rowdy children. When they were young she was a stay at home mother, later working in potatoes as they got older.
One thing you could say about Eleanor: she was always smiling- whether happy or not! She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and enjoyed playing Bingo, coloring, and watching “Little House on the Prairie” or “Gunsmoke.” She was a faithful Catholic who trusted God's will. Daniel died on October 3, 2011, and lived independently (with the help of her family) until 2022, when she moved into North Star Manor.
She will be missed.
Eleanor is survived by her eight children, Kevin (Vickie) Kostrzewski, David “Oly” (Kim) Kostrzewski, Allen, Donald, and Brian Kostrzewski, Dawn (Chad) Bodell, Renee (Jenni) Feuillerat, and Elizabeth (Clay) Reck; 30-year “out-law,” Jim (Robyn) Stafford; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five brothers, five sisters, and their spouses.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, Daniel, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Amy Kostrzewski; granddaughter, Krista, and her three children; and seven siblings.
