Ervin Grabanski Obituary

Due to a Blizzard Watch, Ervin's Funeral Mass is being rescheduled to:
Saturday, Christmas Eve (December 24, 20222), at 9:30 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oslo, MN

Ervin Grabanski, 94, of Alvarado, MN, fulfilled his wish of dying at home, on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Ervin Peter was born on May 11, 1928, in Warsaw, ND, the son of John and Theodora Grabanski. He was raised in Warsaw until the age of 11, when the family moved to some land they'd bought in Alvarado. It was to be the land on which Ervin would live and work the rest of his days. He attended both country school and the convent school in Warsaw, ending his education early so he could work alongside his father. In 1951, Ervin enlisted in the US Army. Stationed out of Fort Worden in Washington state, he transported troops and equipment as a Landing Craft Utility Boat operator and was honorably discharged in 1953. Apart from returning to his lifelong work on the land, Ervin was active in nature, hunting and fishing- both on the ice and off of it. Known as “Swede” (for being the sole Polish teammate), Ervin also played baseball with his lifelong friends in Alvarado.

On February 16, 1965, Ervin was united in Holy Matrimony to Sally Jaeger, at the Cathedral in Fargo, ND. The two had met when she was living there, Ervin being in town visiting with Warsaw friends. Following their marriage, Ervin and Sally made their life together back on the farm, raising two daughters and watching all things grow with the seasons. Ervin loved Alvarado and it loved him back. He kept young at heart, not only by farming and working well into his golden years, but by having young friends with whom he could chew the fat (the classmates of his daughters, usually). Ervin was on the Township Board, was active in the Oslo American Legion and East Grand Forks VFW, was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and drove truck for the Olson and Beaudry Farms- all this in addition to his life's work on his land.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally Grabanski; his daughter, Lynette (Chad) Canode of Dickinson; two grandchildren, Jesse and Brooke Canode; brother, Daniel Grabanski of Fargo; and many other relatives.

Though he has gone from us, he will be spending this Christmas with his daughter, Lori, who passed away on June 25, 2012; his parents; a sister, Irene (Ernest) Kulas; sister-in-law, Shirley Grabanski; and his in-laws, Tony and Gertrude Jaeger.
