Obituary

Gale Swanson, 82, of Warren, MN, passed away on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Villa Saint Vincent in Crookston, MN, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Gale was born on March 3rd, 1938, the only child to Reuben and Freda (Dargus) Swanson. He was raised on a farm near Warren and graduated from Warren High School with the class of 1956.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958 and was stationed overseas in Germany and eventually in Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Gloria Prather on November 17th, 1962. To this union a son (Randy) in 1965 and two daughters (Robin) in 1968 and (Renae) in 1971 were born. Another son (Robert) was adopted in 1973 and became a cherished member of their family.

Gale owned Warren T.V. and Appliance on Main Street in Warren for a time in the 1970's and early 1980's but decided in 1984 to move to California to pursue a career with NASA at Edwards AFB. Gale was employed at Ames Dryden Research Facility as a Avionics Instrumentation Technician from 1984 and eventually retiring in 2004 after 20 years of service mostly with Experimental Aircraft. He was very proud of his time working with NASA. After retirement, they moved to Black Canyon City, AZ. in 2005 and traveled the nation in his Dodge Diesel and camper and devoted their time being active in the VFW and American Legion serving in many different positions with those organizations. Gale and Gloria were also very active with the Boy Scouts in Warren where he served as Scoutmaster for many years in the 1970's and early 1980's. Gale truly loved his time spent mentoring his sons and many boys in the area into adulthood.

On October 18th, 2011, Gloria passed away due to complications from COPD, he eventually moved in 2014 to Stephens, Arkansas to live with his daughter Robin who became his loving caretaker. They moved back to the Warren community in 2017 and until recently resided there. In August of 2019, Gale became a resident of Villa St. Vincent.

Gale is survived by his sons, Randy of St. John, ND and Robert (Pam) of Camden, AR and a daughter, Renae of Warren. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Roman Swanson (Gisselle) of Santa Clarita, Ca. and Alexis Swanson-Coleman of Simi Valley, Ca. and one great-grandchild, Landon Jace Swanson. He was predeceased by his father, Reuben, mother, Freda, his beautiful wife, Gloria in 2011 and his loving daughter, Robin who passed away on December 27th, 2019

Gale enjoyed dancing and listening to old country and western music and volunteering his time for the betterment of his community wherever they happened to live. God Bless the memory of our Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Gale.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 10:30 AM, in Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.
MILITARY HONORS: Warren American Legion, Post #27; and the Minnesota Honor Guard.

NOTE: In addition to the interment of Gale's cremated remains, we will also be laying to rest those of his wife, Gloria; and daughter, Robin.
