Gene E. Johnston

Gene Johnston, 93, of Angus, MN, passed away on Tuesday, March 10. 2020, at North Star Manor in Warren, MN.

Gene Ezekiel Johnston was born on January 1, 1927 in rural Mentor, MN, the youngest child of Herbert and Anna (Madsen) Johnston. He was raised near Angus and attended Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. Gene served in the US Army from 1945-1947 and spent his time in Germany. On June 4, 1952, Gene was united in marriage to Jean Parkin. They made their home on a grain and dairy farm near Angus where they raised their five children. They moved into Angus in 1983. Jean passed away November 18, 2013. Gene moved to North Star Manor in 2014.

He was active in his community, serving on the boards of Angus Co-op Elevator and Cass-Clay Creamery. Gene was a member of Angus-Tabor Presbyterian Church and Warren American Legion Post #27. He was named the 1961 RRV Honored Dairyman and the Outstanding Farm Family in 1985. He also enjoyed many years selling Cargill seed. Gene was a life long farmer and horse lover.

Left to mourn his passing are sons, Gary (Carey) Johnston, Todd (Kathy) Johnston, and Jay (Mary) Johnston all of Angus , MN; daughters, Vickie (Gary) Wilson of Roseau, MN, and Diane (Kendall) Johnson of Gwinner, ND; ten grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Anna; wife, Jean, grandson, Jason Johnston; infant grandchildren, Thomas Johnston and Jodi Wilson; brother, Stanley Johnston and sisters, Elaine Maruska and Eleanor Wittman.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Angus-Tabor Presbyterian Church in Angus, MN.

VISITATION: One hour before services at the church.

INTERMENT: Angus-Tabor Presbyterian Cemetery in Tabor, MN
