Gloria Selnes

Gloria Selnes, 97, of Oslo, MN, passed away early Saturday morning, March 11, 2023 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.

Gloria Maxine Mendick was born on August 28, 1925 in Oslo, MN, the daughter of Edward J. and Agnes (Holter) Mendick.  She was raised in Oslo, baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran church and graduated from Oslo High School.  Gloria was united in marriage to Oliver J. Selnes on October 16, 1948.  They made their home in Oslo where Gloria did the bookkeeping for Oliver's cement contracting business.  Oliver died on February 16, 1984.  Gloria continued to live in Oslo until she moved to Tufte Manor in Grand Forks on December 22, 2016.  

She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oslo where she taught Sunday School and participated in Circle.  She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Oslo American Legion Auxiliary.   Gloria was a Gold Star Sister.

Gloria enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and doing crossword puzzles.  Gloria had close relationships with her cousins who lived in the Oslo area and those who would return often to visit.  Many of her stories were about the good times they shared.  Two of their favorite pastimes were going to dances and getting together for sing-alongs. She also shared many adventures with her good friend Myrtle Dahlstrom. 

Left to mourn her passing are three daughters, Marsha (Jerel) Skattum of Adrian, ND, Wendy (Robert) Hewitt of Grand Forks, ND and Mary (Ken) Chisholm of Grand Forks, ND; six grandchildren, Aaron Skattum (Brenda Woodford), Annie Skattum (Jamie Pullen), Evan (Lori) Skattum, Tanner Hewitt, Andrea (Charles) Gue and Rachel Chisholm (Brett McDougall); eight great-grandchildren, Tavin and Raiden Hewitt, Andi Jo and Lennon Skattum, Charles (Charlie) and Veta Glorianne Gue, and Phaedra and Linleigh McDougall and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oliver J. and seven siblings, Leone (Ray) Awes, Robert, Ernest (Betty), Edward (Donna, Betty), Ronald, Rodney and David (Carolyn) Mendick.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oslo, MN.

VISITATION: One hour before services.

INTERMENT: Riverside Cemetery, Oslo, MN
