Grace Hedlund, 81, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Warren, MN, passed away early Friday morning, March 4, 2022 at Essentia Health - Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Grace Miriam Hedlund was born in the Warren Hospital on Sept. 23rd, 1940, the first of five children born to Ferdie & Lola (Horgen) Hedlund. She was baptized at McCrea Lutheran Church located in McCrea Township on land donated by her Grandpa Horgen. Grace was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran in Warren and graduated from Warren High School in the spring of 1958. After living in Thief River falls and in Fargo, ND, Grace returned to Warren and began her 50 year career as a typesetter at the Warren Sheaf.
Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie (Dan) Baker of Vergas, MN; Granddaughter Kathryn of Moorhead; Grandson Nicholas of Fargo; Brother Jon (Linda) Hedlund of Rio Rancho , NM; Sisters Mary (Rod Peterson) Hedlund of Thief River Falls and Sara Hedlund of Warren; Goddaughter, Erika Hedlund of Newfolden; Uncle Roger & Aunt June Hedlund of Calimesa, CA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that she held dear to her heart.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister Joyce and Life partner Donald Evans.
She was passionate about her daughter and grandchildren and enjoyed living closer to them the last 2 years. She never lost her love of the color purple and it is reflected in everything she owned! She was an avid crafter and loved making her special crocheted hangers. She shared her hangers with anyone and everyone!
The staff at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes and Hospice of the Red River Valley took excellent care of Grace and we ask that donations be made to HRRV in her honor. Thank you to all her family, neighbors and friends that volunteered their time to help her when she was living alone.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.
VISITATION: One hour before services.
INTERMENT: McCrea Lutheran Cemetery, rural Warren, MN
