Irene Nowacki, 105, of Argyle, MN, died in her home at Arbor Park in Moorhead, MN, on Thursday morning, April 14, 2022.
Irene was born on October 20, 1916, in St. Paul, Nebraska, to Peter and Josephine (Siwinski) Dziengel. She moved with her family to Argyle when she was 16. On October 27, 1936, Irene was married to Edmund Nowacki, and they made their home in Alma Township, worshiping in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. They raised four children and Irene actively farmed alongside her husband. Over the years, Irene was a member of the Cancer Society, the local Homemakers, and Catholic Daughters. She was a religion teacher, choir member, rosary sodalist, and on the parish council at St. John's; a 4-H leader; president of the Senior Citizens Club; and was named both Argyle's and Marshall County's Outstanding Senior Citizen. A world traveler, Irene toured eight European countries, and traveled widely in Canada, Mexico, and the United States (including Alaska). Her hobbies included playing Bingo and pinochle, fishing, sewing and crocheting, flower gardening, collecting porcelain dolls, and dancing. But apart from everything listed above, Irene wasn't busy at all.
She is survived by her children, Alden (Dorothy) Nowacki, Gary (Pamela) Nowacki, Sandra Nowacki, and Judith Knoll; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Dziengel; and sister-in-law, Gloria Dziengel.
In addition to her husband, Edmund, who died in 1985, Irene was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Knoll; son-in-law, Bill Knoll; all of her sisters, Tecla Depew, Dorothy Zaun, Dolores Dziengel, and Josephine Doerer; brothers, Clemence, Louis, Chester, Peter, Edwin, and Adolph Dziengel; and her “favorite child,” Lester Svendsen.
